As part of the experimental initiative 3, 2, 1… TEST, which marks BIO 50.24. biennial of design in Ljubljana, a group of 120 international designers and multidisciplinary agents for six months
engaged in planning possible design futures. In the process of cooperation, they covered eleven thematic areas that mark different aspects of everyday life.
The groups dealt with the following topics: Affordable Living, Getting to Know Your Food, Public Water – Public Space, Walking the City, Hidden Crafts, Fashion System, Hacking Household Appliances, Nanotourism, Motor Units, Observing Space and Designing Life.
For each of these themes, they designed projects that will be implemented during the biennial and beyond
its conclusion. BIO was established in 1964 as the first biennial of industrial design in Europe. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary in 2014, it is embarking on a bold transformation from a traditional exhibition of industrial design objects to a six-month collaborative process.
The purpose of BIO 50 is to strengthen local and international design networks, find alternatives to already established systems through design and create the basis for flexible structures that can be further developed after the end of the biennial. With its experimental approach and ambitious goals, BIO 50 has become a study of the possible futures of design and design events in the modern world.
The main exhibition BIO 50, named 3, 2, 1… TEST, presents the process of cooperation and projects developed by individual groups. In addition to the main exhibition, we have also prepared a retrospective exhibition of the Biennial of (Industrial) Design over Fifty Years and a varied accompanying program of events entitled BIO 50: NOW.
