Connecting Design and Industry
With the “Connecting Design and Industry” business chain, RCKE connected young designers and furniture companies in the production of new furniture products. Slovenia is among the countries with large timber potential, possessing quality wood, carpentry skills and a developed design profession. However, new business models are needed, which will connect the timber and the design industries as well as the marketing profession, enabling the production of wood products with high added value.
In bringing the first project of the business chain of the designers and the furniture industry to fruition, we worked with the Department of Industrial and Unique Design of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (ALUO) and the Institute for Economic Research (IER). Under the supervision of Prof. Vladimir Pezdirc (ALUO), the designers prepared 25 draft outlines of furniture products. The companies that participated in the business chain produced 11 prototypes, which were presented in the main Slovenian furniture fair, Ambient 2012.
The TOP 10 Gold Plaque by Naš dom magazine for a furniture piece by a Slovenian manufacturer that can be partially or fully used to most functionally equip a space went to Mizarstvo Amek, which conceived its products together with young designers in the business chain, for their Tramek TV cabinet designed by Dejan Kos. The collaboration between designers and companies continues even after the end of the business chain.
